Webinar | ESG: Why Should Board Members Care?

On 24 March, the House of Sustainability, in collaboration with ILA (the Luxembourg Institute of Directors), hosted a webinar focused on the crucial role board members play in addressing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) challenges and complying with emerging regulatory requirements.

The event opened with welcome remarks from Juliette Petit, Sustainability Advisor at the House of Sustainability, underlining the growing expectations placed on boards to steer sustainability efforts and integrate ESG concerns in their corporate strategies.

This was followed by a series of insightful testimonies given out by experienced board members and executives who shared their views and experiences on why ESG matters in the boardroom:

  • Véronique Schmitt, Marketing & Communication Director and member of the Executive Committee at Cactus SA
  • Reyhan Gulec, Independent Non-Executive Director and ILA Board Member
  • Nicolas Henckes, CEO of Hospilux
  • Karen Wauters, Non-Executive Director, involved in ILA’s Sustainability Strategy for Board Members

Each speaker offered a unique perspective on how ESG is being integrated into corporate decision-making and how board members can better support sustainable business models.

The webinar concluded with a dedicated focus session on “ESG Risks – Responsibilities and Sanctions”, delivered by Marian Unterstell, PhD candidate at the University of Luxembourg, who explored the legal implications for directors and the importance of proactive risk management in the ESG context.
